Plasma televisions are sending home power bills sky high as more people install bigger and more energy-intensive screens. Did you know that over the course of one year, running a large screen Plasma TV in your home is equivalent to running up to 5 old-style televisions? Had I known that before I recently bought one - I wouldn’t have bought it. Mine is a massive 50 inch screen and and you can feel the heat coming off the display when it’s on. The Plasma technology is one big sucker of electricity. In a world where we’re changing light bulbs and trying to change people’s behaviour and awareness in the way they use electricity - the Plasmas technology sure is one mighty big step backwards. I even noticed when the next electricity bill arrived that it had just about doubled in price. I went looking for an answer and I found it. Plasmas are sucker of electricity. In Australia, large-screen TVs are among a number of new, energy-sapping products that are not yet required to have energy labelling or to meet any mandatory minimum standard. But even for appliances that wear them, can the energy star labels be trusted?
