Alternative Care For Canines

December 28th, 2007

Hi Gurus - If you own a Pet Dog or Cat - have a look at This Website for some fabulous natural and easy to make remedies to cure many problems related to your furry friends. I love this site.

Many pet owners are using herbal medicines and alternative remedies for their animals. While some of these products can be very helpful, others are actually harmful to pets. Without professional advice and correct dosage rates, it is unwise to give medicines, herbal or otherwise, to your pets which have been prescribed or recommended for humans.

The best way to address the issue of natural supplements for pets is to become informed about what treatments are available and how they can be used. Following are some of the treatments currently being used by veterinarians and pet owners to treat animals:

Glucosamine and Chondroitan - These may be the most well known and commonly prescribed nutraceuticals for pets. They are not herbal supplements: glucosamine is derived from shellfish tissue, and chondroitan is derived from animal products. They are given to animals suffering from arthritis and joint pain, in order to rebuild the cartilage that cushions and protects joints.

Echinacea - Echinacea is a well-known immunostimulant. It is said to improve the immune system and help pets fight off infections, diseases, and even cancer.

Aloe - This thick-leaved plant is used for animals much like it is for humans as a soothing, itch relieving ointment that is applied directly to the skin. It is also said to help heal cuts and protect them from infection. As aloe breaks down quickly and is hard to store over time, the best way to use it is simply to break a leaf off an aloe plant.

Ginger - Chinese medicine has been using this root for centuries as an anti-inflammatory and an aid for stomach problems. Ginger is said to help animals with car sickness and digestive problems like gas and diarrhoea.

Vitamin C - This vitamin, which is considered a powerful anti-oxidant, is abundant in most fruits and some vegetables. It is also available in pill form and as a liquid that can be mixed into a pet’s water. Anti-oxidants are said to help combat the aging process and slow damage to the body’s tissues, as well as to help prevent cancer. It has also been suggested that vitamin C can help treat hip dysplasia, arthritis, and urinary tract problems.

Milk Thistle - Pets with liver problems such as hepatitis may be given this supplement. It is supposed to protect the cells of the liver from toxins.

Saint John’s Wort - Though it has gained fame in human medicine as a treatment for depression, this herb is used as a treatment for viral infections and neural disorders in alternative veterinary medicine.

Ginkgo - Again, this herb has attracted a great deal of attention in human medicine. It is said to work by expanding the blood vessels in the brain, thereby increasing blood flow. People take it to increase their memory and improve their brain function, and some veterinarians are using it to treat animals that exhibit cognitive dysfunctions, the animal equivalent of senile dementia.

Slippery Elm - The bark of this tree is used as an aid to the digestive system for pets that suffer from constipation and upset stomach. It has also been used as a cough suppressant and a poultice (an herb that is boiled down into a paste, cooled, and applied to the skin).

Murder Miracle In Egypt

December 28th, 2007

A Muslim man in Egypt killed his wife and then buried her with their infant baby and 8-year old daughter. The girls were buried alive!
He then reported to the police that an uncle killed the kids. 15 days later, another family member died. When they went to bury him, they found the 2 little girls under the sand - ALIVE!

The country is outraged over the incident, and the man will be executed.

The older girl was asked how she had survived. “A man wearing shiny white clothes, with bleeding wounds in his hands, came every day to feed us. He woke up my mom so she could nurse my sister,” she said.
She was interviewed on Egyptian national TV, by a veiled Muslim woman news anchor. She said on public TV, “This was none other than Jesus, because nobody else does things like this!”

Muslims believe Isa (Jesus) would do this, but the wounds mean He really was crucified, and it’s clear also that He is alive! But, it’s also clear that the child could not make up a story like this, and there is no way these children could have survived without a true miracle. Muslim leaders are going to have a hard time to figure out what to do with this, and the popularity of the Passion movie doesn’t help!

With Egypt at the center of the media and education in the Middle East , you can be sure this story will spread.
Christ is still turning the world upside down!

Please let this story be shared. The Lord says, “I will bless the person who puts his trust in me.”

Australia Leads In Japan Whaling Protest

December 23rd, 2007

Australia has led the largest ever formal international diplomatic protest against Japan’s whaling program, which this year will slaughter almost 1,000 whales in the Southern Ocean despite humpbacks getting a temporary reprieve.

The federal government and anti-whaling groups welcomed as a small victory Japan’s decision to suspend the planned kill of 50 humpbacks.

But they have pledged to maintain pressure on Tokyo to end the so-called scientific whaling program.

Japan said its decision not to catch humpbacks for “one year or two” came after consultation with the International Whaling Commission (IWC), although it noted the strength of the Australian opposition to the annual hunt.

Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith spoke to his Japanese counterpart Masahiko Komura and welcomed the move while conveying the Australian government and people’s “strong opposition” to whaling.

But Australia also took its opposition a step further, leading a formal diplomatic protest in Tokyo to mark the start of Japan’s whaling season.

The ambassador in Tokyo, Murray McLean, presented the Japanese government with Canberra’s protest at 7pm local time (9pm AEDT).

Mr Smith said the 31 countries who joined the formal protest made it the largest international protest of its kind against Japan’s whaling program.

The backers included the United Kingdom, New Zealand, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Brazil, Chile and Mexico, while the European Commission also participated.

“The strength of international support for the diplomatic protest led by Australia shows that there is strong international concern over Japan’s whaling program,” Mr Smith said.

“The formal diplomatic protest sends a very powerful signal to the government of Japan.”

But Mr Smith told Mr Komura that the disagreement would not affect the “warm and productive” relationship between Australia and Japan.

Australia dramatically escalated its anti-whaling campaign this week when it announced it would send a surveillance aircraft and ship to gather evidence for a possible international court challenge to halt the slaughter.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific CEO Steve Shallhorn said the protest letter was a significant escalation of world opposition to Japanese whaling in the Southern Ocean, and would have influenced Japan’s decision to compromise.

Mr Shallhorn said the decision to spare the humpbacks was a significant backdown, but should not be interpreted as Japan softening its stance.

Translated cabinet documents showed the same meeting that granted the reprieve also reaffirmed Japan’s intention to push the IWC to allow the resumption of commercial whaling, Mr Shallhorn said.

“They intend to continue and expand that hunt,” he told reporters in Sydney.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare said the temporary reprieve demonstrated the federal government’s strengthened stance against whalers was working, but more was needed.

“While this is good news for 50 humpbacks it doesn’t change the fact that this year Japan will kill more than 900 whales, including endangered species, in the Southern Ocean,” Asia Pacific campaigns manager Darren Kindleysides said.

“The only way to stop this unlawful, inhumane and unnecessary whaling is if the Australian or other like-minded governments take legal action to enforce international treaties and tribunals.”

Japan, which says whaling is a cherished cultural tradition, abandoned commercial whaling in accordance with an international moratorium in 1986, but the next year began what it insists is a scientific research whaling program.

Japan’s whaling fleet set sail last month with plans to catch almost 1,000 whales, mostly minke, before returning to port early next year.

Greenpeace and the militant splinter group Sea Shepherd have each sent a ship to Antarctic waters to try to disrupt Japan’s whaling.

Are You Enquiring Or Inquiring?

December 17th, 2007

The traditional distinction between enquire and inquire is that enquire is to be used for general senses of ‘ask’, while inquire is reserved for uses meaning ‘make a formal investigation’. In practice, however, enquire (and enquiry) is more common in British English while inquire (and inquiry) is more common in US English, but otherwise there is little discernible distinction in the way the words are used.

Steve Irwin Is The Last Hope For The Whales

December 11th, 2007

after new govt backs out of election promise!

This morning, in the grey swells of the Southern Ocean, a pirate ship will enter the waters of the Australian Antarctic Territory. It is a black ship, bearing a black pirate flag, the Jolly Roger. For the past five days it has sailed south, so that it can take position and wait for the Japanese Whaling fleet.

It is the “Steve Irwin”, the Sea Shepherd’s fast 53 Meter former fisheries protective services vessel that will stand between the whales and the Japanese death fleet.

It’s tough captain, Paul Watson is well known for physical intervention. The Sea Shepherd is not going down to wave flags or take photo’s . . they will intervene directly to stop this illegal activity. It’s our view that the Australian Navy should also be doing the same.

Peter Garrett, the Minister for the Environment, made the pre-election promise to send down our own navy, but this was not followed through after the election, leaving the Sea Shephard and Steve Irwin to stand in the way of the fleet.

The Japanese fleet set out last month to start it’s whaling program intending on killing 1000 whales including including 50 endangered humpback whales and 10 endangered fin whales in the Southern Oceans.

In Africa, if you kill an endangered speacies, you are a poacher. If you shoot black rhino’s or panda’s, you are a poacher. But we still do nothing.

The Japanese fleet will do this in our own exclusion zone because the Australian government will not act and risk it’s trade with Japan.

Founder and President of Sea Shepherd, Captain Paul Watson, shows the courage that we all must have.

“I did not establish the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society as a protest organization,” said Captain Watson. “I have not gone to sea over all these years to simply bear witness to the atrocities that whalers continue to inflict upon the most gentle and intelligent beings in the seas.”

“We arent here to protest . . we’re here to stop people killing whales” “You don’t go down the street and watch a dog being kicked to death and do nothing.
“You don’t sit there and watch a whale being harpooned and killed and do nothing except take its picture.”

For more information and how to support the Sea Shepherd please visit http://www.seashepherd.org/migaloo or http://www.seashepherd.org

You can also contact Peter Garrett, the Minister for Environment and express your views here http://www.alp.org.au/people/nsw/garrett_peter.php

We urge you to consider donating to the Sea Shepherd’s work. Tell your friends, tell your family, put up posters, email your church or member of parlaiment, but make sure everyone knows of this selfless and daring act to save these beautiful creatures.

rambunctious

December 11th, 2007

ram-BUNK-shuss

Example Sentence: By the time she finally got the three rambunctious children to bed, the babysitter was exhausted.

Did you know?
“Rambunctious” first appeared in print in 1830, at a time when the fast-growing United States was forging its identity and indulging in a fashion for colorful new coinages suggestive of the young nation’s optimism and exuberance. “Rip-roaring,” “scalawag,” “hornswoggle,” and “skedaddle” are other examples of the lively language of that era. Did Americans alter the largely British “rumbustious” because it sounded, well, British? That could be. “Rumbustious,” which first appeared in Britain in the late 1700s, was probably based on “robustious,” a much older adjective that meant both “robust” and “boisterous.”
